The Anaheim Ducks completed their Round 1 upset over the Edmonton Oilers with a 5-2 victory in Game 6 on Thursday.
The Ducks controlled the contest from the outset, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and a 4-1 advantage heading into the second intermission. Troy Terry, Chris Kreider, and Leo Carlsson each had three points in the contest while Lukas Dostal made 25 saves.
Connor Murphy and Vasily Podkolzin scored for Edmonton.
This marks Anaheim's first series win since 2017. The Ducks will take on the winner of the Vegas Golden Knights-Utah Mammoth matchup in Round 2. Vegas holds a 3-2 series lead with Game 6 scheduled for Friday.
Edmonton failed to advance out of the first round for the first time since being swept by the Winnipeg Jets in the realigned 2021 season. The Oilers reached the Western Conference Final the following year, and made the Stanley Cup Final the past two seasons.
The club finished second in the Pacific Division with 93 points this season after eclipsing 100 the previous four years.
"That's been the whole year. We've been searching for consistency the whole year," captain Connor McDavid said. "Obviously, we didn't find it in the playoffs."
After leading the league in scoring in the regular season, McDavid was held to one goal and five assists in the series, and a was a minus-3 in the finale. He appeared to be playing through an injury that made his status for Game 5 unclear before ultimately playing.
