Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes instructed offensive lineman Josh Simmons to leave a meeting earlier this week, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Simmons sat with his feet up during Wednesday's meeting, prompting Reid to ask him to put them down, according to Rapoport and Garafolo. However, the former first-round offensive lineman reportedly said he couldn't because his back and hips ached, and Reid responded by telling Simmons to get treatment if that was the case.
The exchange disrupted the meeting, and Mahomes also told Simmons to leave and get treatment, per Rapoport and Garafolo.
Simmons reportedly left the room and later that day apologized to Reid and others.
The Chiefs placed Simmons on injured reserve on Thursday. The 23-year-old hasn't suited up for Kansas City this season while rehabbing a bulging disc in his back.
Simmons has played only eight games since being drafted and missed time last year due to personal reasons and injury.
