The Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions are among the teams that have inquired about the availability of Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr., sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Pittsburgh is open to listening to trade proposals for Porter but wants significant compensation to move him, Schefter adds.
Porter and the Steelers have been involved in a contract dispute since the start of the offseason. The fourth-year cornerback wants a new deal, but the two sides couldn't agree on terms by the franchise's self-imposed deadline of its Week 1 game. Pittsburgh traditionally doesn't hold contract talks once the season begins, leading to rumors of a possible split.
The 26-year-old cornerback denied reports that he requested a trade earlier this week and said he's moved on from the contract saga, calling it "old news."
Porter has yet to play this season due to a back injury that he said continues to flare up at times. However, he promised to "definitely" play when healthy.
The Lions desperately need defensive help, ranking 31st in both yards and points allowed. Their secondary has also been banged up, as defensive backs Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph are still out. The Cowboys haven't been much better, allowing the 29th-most yards in the league and sitting 17th in passing yards surrendered.
Porter is listed as questionable for the Steelers' matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, with the official designation of not injury-related/conditioning.
