Washington Commanders left tackle Laremy Tunsil will likely require surgery after suffering a torn triceps during practice Saturday, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Steve Wyche.
The five-time Pro Bowler is expected to miss a significant portion of the season.
Tunsil inked a two-year, $60.2-million extension with the Commanders in March and was tasked with protecting Jayden Daniels' blindside. The talented passer missed 10 games in his second season after shining as a rookie, and will now face the start of the schedule without the standout left tackle on the line.
Washington allowed the seventh-most sacks the year before Tunsil joined the team from the Houston Texans, but improved to rank 18th based largely on his performance at left tackle.
Andrew Wylie is second on the Commanders' depth chart at left tackle and is the likely replacement for Tunsil, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
