General manager Joe Schoen is confident that the New York Giants will be ready to compete this season, crediting a series of offseason additions following a 4-13 season.
"We only won four games, and that's not good enough. We had five games where we had leads in the fourth quarter, some of those double digits, and you would have liked to have been able to close them out," Schoen told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Judy Battista on Friday.
"But with the offseason additions through free agency and the draft, I really like where the roster is now. ... Certainly excited about some of the additions this offseason."
The Giants held two top-10 picks in last week's draft after acquiring the Bengals' selection for defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. Schoen and the front office selected Ohio State star linebacker Arvell Reese at No. 5 and Miami offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa at No. 10.
Schoen confirmed that Reese will start at off-ball linebacker but could be used anywhere in the Giants' defensive scheme. Though the Buckeyes primarily utilized Reese off the ball, he also rushed from the edge in certain pass-rushing situations and recorded 6.5 sacks in 2025.
New York was active in free agency this offseason, dishing out $169.2-million worth of contracts, ranking seventh in total spending among all teams, according to Spotrac. The club's biggest addition was tight end Isaiah Likely, who signed a three-year, $40-million deal after spending the first four years of his career with new Giants head coach John Harbaugh in Baltimore. New York also added offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds on multi-year contracts.
The Giants recently hosted wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on a free-agent visit, opening up the possibility of a reunion between the sides. However, Schoen said Friday that he had "no updates" on Beckham.
"We worked him out a couple of weeks ago, and he did a good job in terms of that," Schoen said. "We signed a couple of new defensive tackles yesterday, so we're going to continue to always work on the roster regardless of the position and try to upgrade where we can.
"Odell is a guy we had in for a workout, and we'll continue to have conversations with his camp and see where it goes."
The Giants have compiled a 13-38 record since making the playoffs in 2022.
