Golden State Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg said he learned a lesson after struggling during Friday's comeback win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
When asked about his main takeaways six games into the new NBA season, Lendeborg said he'll "try not to wet the bed as bad as I did," according to ESPN's Anthony Slater.
The rookie had a quiet performance in his highly anticipated matchup against Luka Doncic on Friday, tallying six points and five turnovers in Golden State's 112-95 victory.
"When you're having moments like that, try to lean in on your teammates a little more," Lendeborg added. "I tried talking to them, but ... I couldn't get myself out of it."
Lendeborg called out Doncic last week, saying he had lost respect for the Lakers star while showing frustration with Doncic's constant complaining to the referees.
Doncic got off to a sizzling start Friday and finished with a game-high 37 points.
Lendeborg has been one of the NBA's most productive first-year players thus far. The Michigan product leads the Warriors in rebounding (7.8 per game), and his 19.8 points per contest trail only Stephen Curry (29.2). Lendeborg's 87 points through his first four appearances were the most by a Warriors rookie since Wilt Chamberlain in 1959.
Curry picked up the slack with Lendeborg struggling against the Lakers, tallying 31 points, six assists, and four boards to help Golden State erase a 25-point deficit.
The 12-time All-Star is confident Lendeborg will bounce back from the worst performance of his young career.
"We have his back through all of that, and knowing that the next game, we're going to need him," Curry said, according to Slater. "It's all about the theme of him learning trial by fire, going through the ups and downs in front of everybody. It's a tough demand, but I think he's built for it."
