He went the last 144 laps of the 350-lap race without a stop en route to his second victory of the season — he won the Daytona 500 in February — and 15th overall. He also took the season points lead from Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott.<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>Byron, who was second last season in this race, lost gambles on fuel twice this season, at Michigan and Indianapolis, but held on with the help of a caution-filled final stage to win by 1.192 seconds over pole-sitter Chase Briscoe."I really feel we needed to win a race," said Byron, who led 141 laps. "We deserved to win a race."Byron led the first 67 during a caution-free first stage, but had to scramble with strategy as the cautions piled up."You never expect it to be a fuel-mileage race," he said. "But there were so many weird cautions."The drivers behind Byron, who knew he was saving fuel, tried to catch him."It was just the way the yellows fell," said Brad Keselowski, who finished third. "That's when I would have the most time to run the races, in the summer. So I would race this track a ton in iRacing. "Got in there and got loose, and ruined their day. She closed with a 2-under 70 for a two-shot victory.Yamashita holed two big par putts on the back nine at Royal Porthcawl, the last one when Hull had closed to within one shot of the lead.Her final test was the 401-yard 16th, one of the toughest on the course. Yamashita, who turned 24 on Saturday, drilled her drive down the middle and found the green, nearly holing a 45-foot putt. That gave her a three-shot lead with two holes to play.<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>Her final act was a tap-in for par to finish on 11-under 277, and she raised both arms to celebrate. Yamashita wiped away tears as she headed to the scoring trailer.“To be part of such a moment in history is something very, very special,” Yamashita said through an interpreter at the trophy presentation.Hull gave it her best shot. She started the final round three shots behind, made three birdies in a four-hole stretch to get into the mix, and then holed a 20-foot birdie on the 14th to get within one shot of the lead.Behind her on the course, Yamashita hit into a bunker off the tee at the par-5 13th, blasted out and still had a long way for her third, missing the green to the left. Hull didn't get any help from the wind on her tee shot on the 16th, which found a pot bunker and left her no chance of reaching the green. Her third shot bounded off the back of the green, and she had to make a 20-footer to escape with bogey.<h3>Hull runner-up again</h3>Hull bogeyed the 17th, and her chances were done. She closed with a 69 and finished as a runner-up in a major for the fourth time. Minami Katsu was never seriously in the mix, but her closing birdie gave her a 69 to tie for second.“I felt pretty good about how I fought back over the weekend,” said Hull, who was 11 shots behind after two rounds.“I don’t feel like I’ve actually mucked it up by mishitting any shots, which I think everybody can probably agree, you know what I mean? Like I played so solid.”A Lim Kim, the 2020 U.S. Women's Open champion, hit wedge to 5 feet for birdie on the second hole to tie Yamashita for the lead. But she made a series of blunders, starting with a three-putt on the third hole, and fell back. She had six bogeys in her round of 73 and tied for fourth with Rio Takeda (71).“I love the challenge because still now a little pain in my heart, but that is good motivation for me,” Kim said. “So I’m going to keep working on it.”<h3>Japan's success</h3>Four players from Japan have now won the last nine majors in women's golf, and this was the second year there were two Japanese major champions. Mao Saigo won the first major at the Chevron Championship. Ayaka Furue (Evian Championship) and Yuka Saso (U.S. Women's Open) won majors last year.Yamashita became a first-time winner on the LPGA Tour, extending a streak in which there has not been a multiple winner through 20 tournaments to start the year.There is also likely to be a change in the world ranking. Nelly Korda closed with a 75, and projections indicate she will fall to No. 2 behind Jeeno Thitikul. Korda had been No. 1 since March 2024. She tied for 36th and now has gone 14 tournaments without a win, dating to last November.This would be the second time Thitikul is No. 1 in the women's world ranking. She was also No. 1 for two weeks in the fall of 2022.Yamashita didn't have the best birthday, at least inside the ropes, when she struggled off the tee and on the greens in a round of 74 that left her clinging to a one-shot lead. But she stayed on the range with her father until late into the evening, and she found a fix.<h3>Spotlight on Woad</h3>Lottie Woad, coming off a victory in the Women's Scottish Open in her professional debut, closed Sunday with a 71 and tied for eighth. The second with one out in the bottom of the first led to the game being pushed back a day, much like a red flag in motorsports.<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>Fans who stuck out the first delay of 2 hours, 17 minutes started heading toward the exits before the game was postponed with the Reds holding a 1-0 lead.It was an unwelcome detour for the long-planned event mixing baseball and NASCAR."We're going to suspend tonight's game. ... We are optimistic for a better weather forecast for tomorrow," Michael Hill, MLB's senior vice president of on-field operations, told Fox.The rain made life difficult on the players before the suspension. A bat flew out of TJ Friedl's hands as he led off for the Reds. A pitcher seemed to catch his footing going to cover first base.The MLB Speedway Classic was first announced nearly a year ago as part of Commissioner Rob Manfred's push to take MLB to places where baseball isn't played every day live. MLB played a game at the "Field of Dreams" movie site in Iowa in both 2021 and 2022. Reds pitcher Andrew Abbott showed up Saturday afternoon at Bristol wearing a cut-off version of a NASCAR race suit. Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, Abbott said he wanted something to wear in for a special game."I grew up around NASCAR," Abbott said. "Just went on eBay and found a couple options, and luckily that was the one that arrived in time. I had a couple of backups. I know who Rusty Wallace is too, so I actually do know the backstory behind it."Long before the fans departed in the rain, they were entertained by a 110-foot Ferris wheel, to go along with food trucks, live music, pitching tunnels and batting cages. Fans also had a chance for photos with the Commissioner's Trophy, and Clydesdales outside the historic racetrack.Inside, star Tim McGraw performed and was joined by Pitbull.Before the weather moved over the area, players stood in the back of pickup trucks with their numbers emblazoned on the side and rode around the half-mile racetrack. Some used their phones to document the moment. For introductions, the Braves and Reds walked between a pair of cars decked out in Atlanta and Cincinnati colors.Then the tarp came out as rain that had been falling around Bristol much of Saturday turned heavy and delayed the start.The first delay led to the Braves switching starting pitchers. Spencer Strider, who grew up in nearby Knoxville, got a bigger ovation than Reds starter Chase Burns, who is from Hendersonville and played at the University of Tennessee. The Reds stuck with Burns despite the delay.Strider warmed up. The Braves chose not to risk his third start in this situation coming off a second elbow surgery.The rain stopped long enough to take off the tarp and start the game.Michael Waltrip, who raced plenty at Bristol, restarted the festivities by quoting his brother Darrell: "Boogity, boogity, boogity. Let's play baseball boys!"Atlanta went down in order in the top of the first inning. But there was another rain delay after Austin Hays hit an RBI single for Cincinnati in the bottom half.MLB didn't try to sell every ticket inside the speedway that drew 156,990 for the Battle of Bristol college football game in 2016. The track with a racing capacity of 146,000 could host 90,000 or more even with sections blocked off.Officials announced Monday more than 85,000 tickets had been sold — topping the previous paid attendance of 84,587 set Sept. 12, 1954, when Cleveland Stadium hosted the New York Yankees.A batter has to clear 400 feet to hit anything out of center field, 375 in the alleys and 330 down each base line. Pulling a ball down the line raises the prospect of a ball bouncing off the racetrack beyond the outfield wall."Honestly, my first thought I can't believe they did all this for one game," Braves first baseman Matt Olson said of his first visit to Bristol. "To be able to set all this up, get a playing surface ready, set the stands up in order to have the proper viewing, it's pretty incredible."

PORTHCAWL, Wales (AP) — Miyu Yamashita was crooked off the tee and struggled on the greens, a rough combination that led to a hard-fought round of 2-over 74 on Saturday that shrunk her lead to one shot over A Lim Kim in the Women's British Open.
Yamashita, who led by three shots going into the third round, did not hit a fairway over the last 11 holes and still managed to stay in front at Royal Porthcawl, though it wasn't easy.
She was on the verge of losing the lead on the 17th when she blasted out of a pot bunker all the way across the green to the fringe, some 40 feet away. She holed that putt for par, and then missed a birdie chance from just inside 6 feet on the par-5 closing hole.

That put Yamashita — who turned 24 on Saturday — at 9-under 207.
“Today I’ll be just looking at what went wrong and what went right and analyzing the day and make the improvements that hopefully will lead to a better round tomorrow,” Yamashita said.
Kim put on a fabulous display as the wind got stronger with a 5-under 67. She had a chance to tie for the lead when she hit a 335-yard drive on the 18th hole with a helping wind and fast links turf. She went just long, used her putter from off the green and took three putts for par.
Even so, it puts her in the final group with Yamashita as Lim goes for her second major, having won the U.S. Women's Open in 2020 in Houston without fans during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Honestly I’m not focused on the leader. I focus on my process and my shot and then my position,” Kim said.
And it's not just Kim with a chance. 
Yamashita's struggles brought several possibilities in the final round, including the always entertaining Charley Hull of England. She shot a 66, going from 11 shots behind to within three shots of the lead as Hull goes for her first major.
“I just kind of enjoy chasing,” Hull said of playing from behind. “It’s more fun that way.”
Andrea Lee had a 67 and was two shots behind, followed by Hull, Megan Khang (68), Rio Takeda (74) and Minami Katsu, whose 65 matched the low score of the tournament.
“I think there will be a little bit of extra pressure on whoever is the 54-hole leader,” Lee said. “Tomorrow is going to be pretty tough. Anything can happen out there. I think anyone within five shots has a chance at this championship honestly, so I’m just going to try and keep my head down and stick to my own game plan and try not to look at the leaderboard.”
The Women's British Open had the look of a Japanese duel, with Yamashita three shots ahead of Takeda and no one else closer than seven shots. But it was a struggle for Yamashita early with her putting, and then one of the straightest drivers lost her way.
She steadied herself with an approach — from the rough, of course — into 3 feet for birdie on No. 11, and a tee shot that settled 3 feet away for another birdie on the par-3 12th.
But playing out of the fescue caught up with her, and except for that 40-foot par putt on the 17th to keep her in the lead, it was a struggle to get done with the round.
Takeda wasn't much better, with two bogeys in four holes at the start and two more bogeys over the final five holes.
Lottie Woad, the rising English star who won last week in her professional debut, birdied the last hole for a 71 and wound up six shots behind.
Nelly Korda, the No. 1 player in women's golf, is likely to end the major championship season without a title. She shot 74 and fell nine shots behind. Korda has gone 13 tournaments without winning and risks losing her No. 1 ranking to Jeeno Thitikul depending on the final round.
The LPGA Tour already is off to a historic start by not having a multiple winner through 19 tournaments, a streak that could continue. Only Kim and Takeda from the top 10 on the leaderboard have won this year.
